# Sunsetting Articles on Peerlist

> Articles is being retired. Learn what's changing, why we made this decision, and how to download your writing before it's removed.

We're retiring the **Articles** feature on Peerlist. This page explains what's changing, why we made this decision, and how you can download a copy of your articles before they're removed.

## What's happening

Articles is being phased out in two steps:

| Date                   | What changes                                                                                                                    |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Now** | Adding new articles is discontinued. Your existing articles stay visible in read-only mode, and **data download is available**. |
| **September 30, 2026** | All articles are permanently deleted. Article pages and links will no longer be accessible after this date. |

<Warning>
  Please download your writing by **September 30, 2026**. After that date,
  article data cannot be recovered.

## Why we're sunsetting Articles

When we launched Articles, the idea was simple. Peerlist has some of the strongest SEO around, and we wanted to put that to work for your writing. So many of you write brilliant case studies, incident postmortems, deep dives on product building, and hard-won lessons from shipping. We wanted Articles to give that writing real discoverability and to bring all your work into one place, literally on your profile.

What we did not anticipate was the flood of AI generated content. Before long, Articles started filling up with AI slop. It made the feed less read-worthy for real readers and discouraging for the writers putting in genuine effort. Alongside that came constant spam, and fighting it took more and more of our time.

As we focus on making Peerlist cleaner and more meaningful, we decided this is not the battle we want to fight. It is better to step back from Articles and put that energy into something more worthy of Peerlist, its users, and our team.

We are not done helping you write and grow. We want to bring better ways to share your work, like a **newsletter**, to the genuine writers and builders who want to grow the right way on Peerlist.

Thank you to everyone who wrote with us. Keep writing, and keep shipping good things.

## How to download your articles

You can export your articles as a **`.zip` file**, which includes all your articles, both published and drafts.

<Info>
  Downloading your data is currently available **on the web only**
  [peerlist.io](https://peerlist.io). It isn't supported in the mobile apps.
  If you're on mobile, please open Peerlist in a desktop or mobile browser to
  download.
</Info>

### Steps

1. Open Peerlist in a web browser and sign in.
2. Go to your **profile** or open the **Articles** section.
3. Look for the **"Peerlist Articles is being retired"** banner.
4. Click **Download articles (.zip)**.
5. A file named `peerlist-articles-YOUR-USERNAME-DATE.zip` will be saved to your device.

### What's included in the download

The `.zip` contains:

* A **`README.md`** explaining the layout, export date, and article counts.
* A **`published/`** folder for live articles and a **`drafts/`** folder for unpublished ones.
* Each article saved **twice**: a **Markdown** file (`.md`) with metadata at the top, and an **HTML** copy as a lossless fallback.

Each Markdown file's metadata includes the title, subtitle, status (published or draft), slug, public URL, author and co-author handles, created/published/updated dates, featured and social (OG) image links, SEO title, description and keywords, and engagement counts (upvotes, comments, views).

<Note>
  Images are **not** bundled in the `.zip`. Image links in your files point to
  their hosted copies, which stay available until the deletion date. Download
  any images you want to keep before then.
</Note>
